My research at UIC is studying digital art tools and how they are used to address the visualization of scientific research. I use 3D modeling and digital painting tools to create pieces addressing problems within the medical field. My submitted image depicts serotonin toxicity that occurs when methylene blue, a dye used during parathyroidectomies, is injected into patients taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). This type of antidepressant, as well as methylene blue, blocks the reuptake of serotonin. |
