| Abstract: |
My research is in computational population biology, which involves building large-scale computational models of wild animal behavior and associations using modern computer science techniques. As part of my research, I am currently developing a computer algorithm for automatically identifying individual wild animals from photographs, as this is an essential and largely unexplored step in field biology and conservation research. The image I am submitting was a chance sighting of a lioness while I was collecting data in Ol' Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya, on January 12th, 2010. It was approximately 5 meters away from where I was standing. |
