| Abstract: |
Expression of Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1 in normal human colonic epithelium. This image was generated using confocal microscopy to visualize the expression of ICAM-1 and actin protein in normal colonic epithelium from a human tissue sample. Although the tumor proper does not express ICAM-1 (shown in red), the supporting tissue shows evidence of ICAM-1 expression by infiltrating leukocytes. Actin expression (denoted in green) is expressed throughout the normal tissue to highlight the elegant architecture of the colon. This image was recently included in my dissertation and selected for the cover of the journal American Journal of Physiology: Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology. |
