| Abstract: |
During my study abroad experience in Barcelona, I researched urbanity and that which makes a city function on a social and civic level. A primary part of my focus was how we, as inhabitants of a metropolis, move through the city. Architecturally, we often describe the tangible experience based on its section. In the picture I chose, we see city-goers moving vertically, from deep within the earth, rising toward the sun. This seemingly simple move serves to create a grand experience. One emerges from the depths and is introduced to the city in a grand way. The skyline becomes monumental and the city becomes iconic. With this research, I was able to formulate a thesis about how urbanites relate to their city and it's infrastructure. |
