From: Urgent Official Announcement Date: August 7, 2008 12:51:21 PM CDT To: URGENT_FACULTY@LISTSERV.UIC.EDU Subject: [URGENT] Crime alert Reply-To: trphilip@uic.edu On Aug. 6, at 9:10 a.m., a female youth was the victim of an off-campus purse-snatch robbery in the 1100 block of West Vernon Park  Avenue. The victim stated that a single offender followed her from the CTA Blue Line Station south on Racine Avenue, then west on Vernon Park toward her residence. As she entered the front gate to her residence, the offender approached her from behind and after a short struggle took her cellular phone and fled. She was not injured. The offender is described as a black male with short hair, 20 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 190 to 210 pounds, wearing a striped polo shirt and dark pants. UIC Police strongly recommend: --be aware of your surroundings --try to travel in groups when possible, particularly after dark --use well-lit walkways --on campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 1,000 across campus) --the emergency number for UIC Police is 5-5555 or 312-355-5555, which should be set on speed-dial on your cell phone The crime will be investigated by the UIC/CPD Joint Robbery Task Force. Kajari UIC Police From: Official Announcement Date: August 19, 2008 3:25:12 PM CDT To: OFFICIAL_FACULTY@LISTSERV.UIC.EDU Subject: [OFFICIAL] Electrical Repairs in University and Jefferson halls Reply-To: mdonovan@uic.edu To facilitate repairs on the electrical service that was damaged on Monday, it will be necessary to perform work on the system that serves University Hall and Jefferson Hall on Thursday, August 21 from 6 to 7 a.m. and Saturday, August 23 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. We do not anticipate the need to shut down the power but want to make sure everyone is aware of the work and the possibility service could be temporally interrupted, for a very short period, if there are unforeseen issues. As a precaution, please make sure that any critical equipment is shut down.
