This is an annual observance to empower women across the country to get healthy by taking action. The UIC Center for Research on Women and Gender/National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health encourage women to make their health a top priority and take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life through the following activities: Free Screening Monday, May 12, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Stop by for free screenings for Bone Density, Blood Glucose, Blood Pressure and women’s health information. WOMAN Challenge May 11 to July 5 The WOMAN Challenge (Women and girls Out Movng Across the Nation) is a free eight-week physical activity challenge, encouraging women and girls to set and achieve personal physical activity goals, appropriate for their lifestyles. The WOMAN Challenge begins on Mother's Day, May 11 and ends on July 5, 2008. Register for the WOMAN Challenge now at http://www.4woman.gov/woman/ Donation Drive to Help Women and Girls May 12 - 16 The donation drive is being organized in collaboration with the Health and Medicine Policy Research Group’s Court-Involved Girls Advocates Group. Donations will go to girls in area detention facilities. Personal care items (hypoallergenic soap, shampoo and lotion; feminine hygiene products; toothpaste; toothbrushes) Teen-oriented books and magazines. WOMAN OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS Established in 1992, this annual award honors a UIC woman who has consistently worked on women's issues beyond the call of duty and who is an exemplary role model. Winners are honored with a reception officiated by the Chancellor and a cash award of $1,000. The award criteria include providing service to women at UIC while on the job, responding to issues affecting women, and offering service to women through voluntarism and public support of women's programs. All UIC women employed by the University (including faculty, academic professionals or civil service with at least a 50% appointment) or retired faculty or staff who are still actively involved with women issues and/or service at UIC are eligible for the award. A committee of CCSW officers and former award winners will make the final selection from among the nominees. It is an all-day conference consisting of morning and afternoon workshops that address career and workplace issues, work/life balance, financial, spiritual and physical well-being, self exploration, leadership and empowerment. This year, wealth advisor Ellen Rogin, will be joining us as a luncheon speaker and workshop presenter. A trained economist and accountant, she offers financial management tools to create true lifetime prosperity. She is a dynamic speaker and will teach us new strategies to improve our relationship with money. In addition we will be offering raffle prizes and great networking opportunities.
