KEYNOTE ADDRESS: KERRY ANN ROCKQUEMORE Morning keynote speaker will be Kerry Ann Rockquemore, Ph.D., author and Associate Professor of African American Studies and Sociology at UIC. Professor Rockquemore's scholarship focuses on racial identity development among mixed-race children, interracial family dynamics, and the politics of racial categorization. She is the author of Beyond Black: Biracial Identity in America and Raising Biracial Children, as well as numerous articles and book chapters on biracial identity. In addition to her research, Dr. Rockquemore is the founder of the Under-Represented Faculty Mentoring Program at UIC and provides mentoring workshops for faculty of color at colleges across the U.S. She facilitates the popular online discussion forums at www.BlackAcademic.com, and is co-author of The Black Academic's Guide to Winning Tenure Without Losing Your Soul. WOMAN OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS Deadline: Friday, August 29, 2008 Established in 1992, this annual award honors a UIC woman who has consistently worked on women's issues beyond the call of duty and who is an exemplary role model. Winners are honored with a reception officiated by the Chancellor and a cash award of $1,000. The award criteria include providing service to women at UIC while on the job, responding to issues affecting women, and offering service to women through voluntarism and public support of women's programs. All UIC women employed by the University (including faculty, academic professionals or civil service with at least a 50% appointment) or retired faculty or staff who are still actively involved with women issues and/or service at UIC are eligible for the award. A committee of CCSW officers and former award winners will make the final selection from among the nominees.
