Welcome to the January 2008 issue of The Objective!

We want to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to read The Objective: Career Net News each semester.  When students attend one of our events or visit our office, we often hear them say, “I got an e-mail from my advisor about this workshop.” or “I’m here because my professor told me this was where I needed to go.”  Students look to you for useful information and we thank you for your continued support of Career Services.

If you have any feedback or questions about the material in this edition of The Objective: Career Net News, please contact us at mmartell@uic.edu.
Sincerely,

 What is On-Campus Interviewing?
On-campus interviewing is an opportunity for employers and students to connect during on-site interviews in the Career Services office. The program attracts businesses, technology organizations, service employers, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.

In Fall 2007, approximately 801 interviews were scheduled through the Career Services On-Campus Recruiting Program.  Most positions are post-graduation full-time positions, although employers occasionally recruit for internships.

What companies interview on-campus?  Some of these companies included Andersen Corporation, Bank of America, Caterpillar, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, College Pro, Deloitte, Emerson Process Management, JP Morgan Chase, Lowe’s Co. Inc., Microsoft, Otis Elevator, Target, USG Corporation, Walgreens, and ZS Associates.

Who is eligible to participate?
Students who have graduation dates of December 2007, May 2008, or July 2008 are eligible to participate in On-Campus Interviewing during the Spring 2008 semester.

How can students participate?
The first step to register for on-campus interviewing is to attend a Career Preparation Seminar.  Students are encouraged to attend a seminar early in the semester so they do not miss out on any interviewing opportunities.  Pre-registration is not required, but students MUST arrive on time.  (Some business students may be eligible to attend a Career Services Orientation Seminar instead of a Career Preparation Seminar.)
